Buffalo mountain

May 30, 2010

Buffalo Mountain is one of the most significant natural areas in Virginia. It boasts an amazing 13 rare plant occurences, 3 rare animal occurences, and 6 significant natural communities. The combination of high-elevation (3,971 feet), wind-exposed openings at the summit, and magnesium rich soils make it unlike any place else in the Commonwealth. And we were bold enough to climb to the summit of Buffalo Mountain were the view is really spectacular, you can see Pilot Mountain in NC, among other views, it’s well worth the climb, a bit steep in certain places but certain to make you fell great once you reach the top, mission accomplished.

To Mapquest or not to Mapquest, that is the question.

A recent couple to our inn, we’ll call them Jules & Julia from No VA, decided to ask Mapquest for directions to our B&B, even though we have directions on our Web-page. Needless to say, they got lost while navigating through various dirt roads quite common in Floyd County, once they arrived they told us they could not believe the round-about way they traveled to our inn, they also asked if other guest complained about the roads, we asked them to show us the map that Mapquest had suggested and indeed it brought them in a very round-about way. So the moral of the story is; don’t rely on GPS or Mapquest, simply print the direction or our Web-page and we guarantee a safe and direct way to our inn. Happy trails.

March 2, 2010

We are still waiting for Spring to arrive, even though it is a couple of weeks away, we just can’t wait.

Today we got more snow and it seems Old Man Winter doesn’t want to let go, hopefully we will be able to see grass again, soon.
